Keep in mind the following when using Wingate with Softick PPP:
-
If Palm complains about "PPP timeout" when Wingate installed, try to disable
Wingate Extended network driver.
You cannot use Wingate's NAT (Extended networking support) and Softick PPP.
It looks like Wingate driver has a bug which blocks outgoing ppp frames for
WAN adapters.
-
Wingate doesn't show dial-in interface in the interface list, so you cannot configure
per interface access for Softick PPP. You have to enable DNS and Proxy access from
any interface, which can be a security risk. I recommend to create a separate user for
Palm device and include it into list of "assumed users" by IP address.
So you can configure per user security rather than per interface security.
-
As with any proxing software you should configure your web browser to use proxy server.
Set proxy server address to your Palm RAS Adapter address (192.168.0.128 in our examples)
and port 80 (default for Wingate).
Also set DNS server address in Palm's network connection profile to Palm RAS Adapter IP address
(also 192.168.0.128).
