Even if your desktop computer is a part of corporate network or home LAN
with external router, desktop doesn't provide Internet
access for other network clients.
In this case you need to ask your system administrator to
allocate two separate IP addresses for the Palm RAS Adapter and a Palm device
itself. Your computer will route packets from network to the device
without any address translation.
You need to setup Palm OS software exactly as you do this on desktop.
This includes DNS server address in Network profile, http proxy server
address in your web browser and so on.
If you desktop computer accesses Internet via cable, DSL modem or other
high speed connection (your modem is visible as LAN adapter in Network Connections),
you need to install and setup NAT for Windows 2000/XP.
Please look into netsh command reference for details.
If your desktop computer accesses Internet via dial-up connection you have
to use proxying software like WinGate, WinProxy and so on. A few notes concerning
Wingate configuration with Softick PPP can be found here.
An article about dial-up connection for Windows 2000 Server without
web/mail proxy software can be found here
