Softick PPP Help

  Setting IP addresses

Palm RAS Adapter is inbound only interface, it accepts only dial-in clients. Routing and NAT for such adapters could be configured as "Internal" interface. This name could be localized in localized Windows versions.

Softick PPP creates WAN multichannel device to accept PPP sessions from Palm devices. So you need at least two IP addreses one for Palm RAS Adapter and second for Palm itself.

If your host computer is a part of Local Area Network (LAN) you should ask your system administrator to allocate you two IP addresses. If your network has DHCP server this could be done automatically. You may need to set DNS server address in Network Preferences at the Palm.

If your computer is not a part of corporate network you may choose any private addresses. 192.168.0.128 - 192.168.0.129 is a good choice and will be used further in our examples.

To specify your IP address allocation method please do the following:

  1. Right-click the "My Network Places" icon on the desktop and select the Properties item from the context menu.
  2. Right-click on the "Incoming Connections" icon and select Properties from Context menu
  3. Select "Networking" Page.
  4. Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click "Properties"
  5. Select DHCP allocator or provide your IP address range in appeared dialog.
  6. Check "Allow caller to access network" if you plan to access your LAN from Palm.
