Automatic DNS Configuration
Softick PPP is able to query your Windows configuration for list of DNS servers to use, and in most cases
you can leave default settings. But in few cases you might need to setup DNS addresses to use manually.
Manual setup is required if you have more then two DNS server or dial-up connection.
You can view your current DNS servers by using View log menu item in Network Profile dialog.
DNS servers addresses priority
There are a few simple rules which help you to setup correct DNS configuration.
- Palm OS will use Network profile DNS servers regardless what you have specified on the PC.
- If you have specified Primary and Secondary DNS servers both servers should be available since Palm OS interleaves
DNS Servers usage. If you have places where some of servers are available and some of them are not, create different network profiles for them
- If you have checked "Query DNS" option in Palm Network Profile you need to provide DNS servers in Softick PPP
configuration or enable automatic DNS discovery.
DNS and Dial-up Internet (LAN) access
If you access Internet or corporate LAN via Dial-up connection and DNS servers assigned automatically
by remote host you have an alternative:
- Specify DNS addresses manually
- Establish PPP connection with Palm after connection to remote network is established
This behavior is by design. Softick PPP configures Palm network options during IPCP negotiation phase and
cannot reconfigure Palm if connection was already established.
Manual DNS configuration
For manual DNS configuration establish connection to remote network, open command prompt and type:
C:>ipconfig /all
